Northwestern Stage Lines will now connect to Portland, OR from Boise, ID beginning on December 15th. This new route will operate daily and connect through Pasco, WA, among other cities.

“We’re always excited when we are able to provide a new route and destination to our riders,” said Jacob Price, owner of Northwestern Stage Lines. “To have the opportunity to connect travelers with the amazing city of Portland and the Oregon coast is incredible. We don’t take it for granted and we’re thrilled to be able to operate this new route daily.”

As Northwestern Stage Lines continues to expand into nearby regional markets, the company is always listening to their riders and where they need to go. In 2024 the company announced more options between Spokane and Boise, and this year it was clear that travelers were needing more flexible options to get to western Oregon.

The roughly 500 mile stretch between the two cities will stop in multiple destinations along the way, including Ontario, OR, Pendleton, OR, Pasco, WA, The Dalles, OR, Hood River, OR, and more. These stops, along with others, give riders more localized destinations and options along the Northwestern Stage Lines network.

Connecting more cities in the Pacific Northwest is one of the goals of Northwestern Stage Lines.

“We pride ourselves on giving travelers options,” Price said. “Whether you prefer to not fly, or need a more economical option, or if you simply enjoy the ride and the scenery, we want to provide another viable travel option for you. This now opens up an option for those who may need to get to Portland from thousands of cities across the United States. This new route has great connections with other intercity operators.”

This new Boise to Portland route is a priority for the Oregon Department of Transportation who is funding a portion of the route.

“This grant helps fill a gap, giving Eastern Oregonians access to travel options,” said Suzanne Carlson, ODOT Public Transportation Division Administrator. “Residents rely on transit to reach vital services, from healthcare and employment to education and family support. This new bus route restores access, connecting travelers to Amtrak, airports, and regional and national bus lines, opening the door to seamless mobility across the United States.”

Northwestern is always working on adding additional schedules to many of their lines and regions to better accommodate the higher demand of travelers throughout the country.
